"summary": "Japan's parliament has passed legislation mandating stricter inspections and management of ageing sewer pipes following a deadly sinkhole incident in Saitama Prefecture in 2025. The revised law introduces new safety standards based on corrosion and damage levels, requiring local governments to publish inspection results and countermeasures. The move comes after a corroded sewer pipe caused a massive sinkhole in Yashio, near Tokyo, which killed a truck driver.",
