Sumatra<\/p>\n<p>MEDAN, North Sumatra: Japanese parliament members pledged more <br>\nassistance on Tuesday to the reforestation program in North <br>\nSumatra through the planting of tens of thousands of trees over <br>\nthe next five years.<\/p>\n<p>The pledge was made during a meeting between 35 members of the <br>\nTokyo Metropolitan Assembly, Mizuha Mayor Ishisuka Koueman and <br>\nNorth Sumatra Governor T. Rizal Nurdin at the latter's office, <br>\nMedan.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Mita Toshiya <br>\ndeclined to mention the amount of the assistance, saying the <br>\nfunds were collected voluntarily from each of the Japanese <br>\nparliamentarians.<\/p>\n<p>This year, they will plant thousands of pinus and macadamia <br>\ntrees on four hectares of land in the area of Sipiso-piso, Karo <br>\nregency, and in Parapat district, Simalungun regency.<\/p>\n<p>Similar trees were planted by them last year on a three-<br>\nhectare plot of land also in Sipiso-piso.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will assist reforestation in North Sumatra.
