"summary": "Japan has posted a trade deficit of 1.71 trillion yen for the fiscal year 2025, marking the fifth straight year of deficits, primarily due to higher US tariffs imposed since April 2025 that have burdened automobile exports. Exports rose 4% to 113.24 trillion yen, driven by demand for semiconductors and electronics, while imports edged up 0.5% to 114.96 trillion yen amid higher prices for platinum and non-ferrous metals. Shipments to the US fell 6.6% for the first time in five years, with car exports plummeting 15.9%, though March saw a trade surplus of 667 billion yen.",
