Tokyo said it had lodged a \u201cstern demarche\u201d to China through\ndiplomatic channels after Beijing\u2019s top diplomat Wang Yi accused\n\u201cfar-right forces\u201d in Japan of seeking to revive militarism.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Wang weighed\nin on Beijing\u2019s current relationship with Tokyo, which has been under\nheavy strain since Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made comments about\nTaiwan in November.<\/p>\n
Wang said that \u201cJapanese people should no longer allow themselves to\nbe manipulated or deceived by those far-right forces, or by those who\nseek to revive militarism\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll peace-loving countries should send a clear warning to Japan: if\nit chooses to walk back on this path, it will only be heading toward\nself-destruction.\u201d<\/p>\n
Japan\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed the claims in a post on\nX on Sunday (Feb 15) as \u201cfactually incorrect and ungrounded\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cJapan\u2019s efforts to strengthen its defence capabilities are in\nresponse to an increasingly severe security environment and are not\ndirected against any specific third country,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
It said there were \u201ccountries in the international community that\nhave been rapidly increasing their military capabilities in a\nnon-transparent manner\u201d but added that \u201cJapan opposes such moves and\ndistances itself from them\u201d.<\/p>\n
