        "content": "<p>Japan mission: Poll an improvement<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The Japanese government observation mission, which<br>\ndeployed observers for the presidential election here, said the<br>\nfirst direct election was a significant step toward the<br>\nconsolidation of democracy in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\"As far as the mission could ascertain, the process of voting<br>\nand counting at each polling station was conducted peacefully and<br>\nsmoothly,\" the mission said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>It said some possible irregularities of voting standard<br>\nprocedures were not considered widespread enough to affect the<br>\nlegitimacy of the process.<\/p>\n<p>The mission was led by Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Yutaka<br>\nIimura and consisted of 40 members.
