        "content": "<p>Japan gives Rp 20b in grants<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Japan has earmarked some Rp 20 billion (US$2 million)<br>\nin education grants for Indonesia for 2002, Japanese Ambassador<br>\nto Indonesia Yukio Takeuchi said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\"The small grants will be channeled directly to the people and<br>\nreflect the genuine friendship between Japan and Indonesia,\"<br>\nTakeuchi said in Magelang, Central Java on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Takeuchi was in Magelang to inaugurate dormitories<br>\nand classrooms of the Pabelan Islamic boarding school, which the<br>\nJapanese government helped finance in 2001 with total assistance<br>\nreaching over Rp 800 million.<\/p>\n<p>Present at the induction ceremony were Education Minister<br>\nMalik Fadjar, Central Java Governor Mardiyanto and Magelang<br>\nRegent Hasyim Affandi.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Malik welcomed the announcement, saying the grants<br>\nwere \"like a rising sun that gives light to the Indonesian people<br>\nto build a peaceful nation in the world, especially in developing<br>\ngood relations between Japan and Indonesia.\"<\/p>\n<p>The Pabelan Islamic boarding school currently accommodates 568<br>\nstudents or santris. -- JP<\/p>",
