Japan Foundation offers international exchanges<\/p>\n
The Japan Foundation was established in 1972 as a special
\nlegal entity under the auspices of the Japanese Ministry of
\nForeign Affairs. The purpose of the foundation is to efficiently
\ncarry out activities for international cultural exchange.<\/p>\n
In Indonesia, the Japan Foundation's Jakarta Liaison Office
\nwas opened in 1974, and it was transformed into the Japan
\nCultural Center Jakarta (Pusat Kebudayaan Jepang Jakarta). Also,
\nthe Japanese Language Center (Pusat Bahasa Jepang) was opened in
\n1991 to provide concrete backup for on-site Japanese language
\neducation.<\/p>\n
The foundation's library boasts a collection of 26,000 books
\nand periodicals related to Japan, with about 15,000 of them in
\nJapanese.<\/p>\n
Membership is open to residents of Jakarta and surrounding
\nareas who are 17 years old and over. There is an administration
\nfee charged to members.<\/p>\n
The library is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. On
\nSaturdays the library is open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The
\nlibrary is closed on Wednesdays, Sundays, national holidays and
\non the second and fourth Saturday of each month.<\/p>",
