        "content": "<p>Tokyo \u2014 Senior officials from Japan and the United States discussed\nenergy security cooperation on Saturday as oil and gas shipments through\nthe Strait of Hormuz have effectively ceased amid conflict in the Middle\nEast.<\/p>\n<p>Japan\u2019s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Ryosei Akazawa and\nUS Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum held bilateral negotiations in\nTokyo during a two-day energy security forum attended by ministers,\nbusiness leaders, and officials from dozens of countries.<\/p>\n<p>At the start of the bilateral meeting, Akazawa stated he hoped the\njoint Japan-US forum would \u201cbe the first step towards new energy\nsecurity cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also referenced the situation in the narrow waterway through which\nthe majority of Middle Eastern oil destined for Asia passes.<\/p>\n<p>Akazawa expressed his desire to discuss the development of medium and\nlong-term energy infrastructure based on developments emerging from the\ncurrent crisis.
