Jambi, KL firm plan refinery<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Jambi provincial administration signed on
\nWednesday a preliminary agreement with Malaysian oil and gas firm
\nSikap on the development of an oil refinery in the province.<\/p>\n
The agreement was signed by governor Zulkifli Nurdin and
\nSikap's operational director Zainal Osman in the provincial
\ncapital of Jambi, according to Antara news agency.<\/p>\n
Zulkfli said the plan for the development of the refinery had
\nbeen approved by the central government.<\/p>\n
The refinery was planned to have a processing capacity of
\n100,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil, 30,000 bpd of which would
\nbe taken from the province's oil production and the remaining
\n70,000 bpd to be imported from countries like Kuwait, China and
\nIran, he said.<\/p>\n
He said the development of the refinery was estimated to cost
\nUS$1 billion.<\/p>\n
Present at the agreement signing ceremony were oil and gas
\ncompanies operating in the province, including American firm
\nSanta Fe Energy and Canadian firm Gulf Indonesia Resources. (jsk)<\/p>",
