Jakarta's Satpol PP says it will continue patrols and take enforcement action against sidewalk stalls selling sacrificial animals as Eid al-Adha approaches. The crackdown, based on Regional Regulation No. 8 of 2007 on Public Peace and Public Order, aims to keep footpaths clear and safe for pedestrians, including those with disabilities. Officials have monitored four goat stalls on Jalan Persahabatan Raya in East Jakarta and flagged similar violations in other areas such as Karet Tengsin and Johar Baru.

Practices of selling sacrificial animals on footpaths have been
observed at several points across Jakarta. The Jakarta Provincial Satpol
PP has begun clearing stalls of sacrificial-animal sellers from the
footpaths. The enforcement is aimed at ensuring footpaths remain usable
by pedestrians and do not impede public access. The selling of
sacrificial animals on footpaths has become more widespread ahead of Eid
al-Adha 1447 Hijriah.

Head of Satpol PP DKI Jakarta, Satriadi Gunawan, said the agency
continues patrols in multiple areas to anticipate sellers who operate on
public facilities (fasum), particularly footpaths. ‘One thing is
certain: we will keep patrolling. If found, we will act immediately.
Usually the lurah forwards a warning letter first, to urge compliance,’
Satriadi said when contacted by detikcom, Tuesday (19/5/2026).

Satriadi explained that enforcement is carried out in stages. Vendors
found using footpaths to sell will first be given a warning and educated
to avoid obstructing the pedestrian path. However, if the warning is not
heeded, Satpol PP will take enforcement action.

Satriadi said that today the Pisangan Timur urban village Satpol PP,
together with the Pulogadung district Satpol PP, also responded to
residents’ complaints about stalls selling goats occupying the footpath
on Jalan Persahabatan Raya, in front of the Putri Dormitory at RS
Persahabatan, East Jakarta. Officials monitored four goat stalls
occupying the footpath. The traders were urged persuasively not to
disrupt pedestrians or the routes designated for people with
disabilities.

Not only in East Jakarta, indications of similar violations were also
found in Central Jakarta. According to information received by Satpol
PP, goat-seller stalls occupying footpaths are said to be in the Karet
Tengsin and Johar Baru areas.

In response, Satriadi said he would coordinate with the local Satpol
PP commander (Manpol) in the area to have it checked. ‘Karet Tengsin, I
will confirm with the local Manpol so that it can be checked,’ he
said.

Although he did not detail the number of violations found across
Jakarta, Satriadi stressed that oversight would continue until near Eid
al-Adha. ‘We will certainly continue to clamp down. I will first request
the data, because there are still about ten days left until Eid
al-Adha,’ he added.

Enforcement of sidewalk vendors refers to Regional Regulation No. 8
of 2007 on Public Peace and Public Order. Satpol PP reminds goat sellers
not to use pedestrian facilities to maintain order and safety for road
users.
",
