Tangerang Mayor Wahidin Halim urged the Jakarta administration to
\nshare responsibility in coping with a variety of social problems
\nnow emerging in the areas bordering the two administrations.<\/p>\n
"I'll send a team to meet Governor Sutiyoso directly to talk
\nabout these problems as most of them are resulting from over
\npopulation in Jakarta," Wahidin said on Monday.<\/p>\n
He highlighted four main problems including illegal dumping
\nand prostitution.<\/p>\n
Since the temporary closure of Bantar Gebang dump in Bekasi
\nearly in January, he said, many garbage trucks from Jakarta have
\nbeen playing hide and seek with local officers in order to dump
\ngarbage at the municipal dump in Rawa Kucing, Neglasari district.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, he added, evictees from Tanjung Duren, West
\nJakarta, were now squatting in Batu Ceper district.<\/p>\n
Wahidin also claimed that an increasing number of prostitutes
\nhave moved to several main roads in Tangerang, "who previously
\noperated in Pondok Labu, South Jakarta, and Jatinegara, East
\nJakarta".<\/p>\n
"Moreover, many residents of Ulujami subdistrict, South
\nJakarta, opted to go to a community health center of Larangan
\nsubdistrict which is under Tangerang's jurisdiction. We already
\nhave enough problems with limited medical facilities and
\nservices," he remarked.<\/p>\n
Expressing hope that Sutiyoso would respond to the problems,
\nWahidin added that the neighboring administrations should build
\ncooperation and improve coordination.<\/p>",
