Jakartans' life expectancy highest<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The life expectancy of Jakartans has become the
\nnation's highest in this sixth Five-Year Development Plan
\n(Repelita), Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has said.<\/p>\n
The governor disclosed this fact when he officially ran the
\nfirst operation of the city-donated radiology equipment unit at
\nthe Jakarta Islamic Hospital over the weekend, Antara reported
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
\"The life expectancy of men in Jakarta is 69 and women 71,
\nwhile the average national life expectancy is just 63,\" he said.
\n\"In the last Repelita, Jakartans' life expectancy was only the
\nsecond highest to Yogyakartans. That's because Yogyakartans lead
\na relatively more peaceful life\"<\/p>\n
He attributed the increase of Jakartans' life expectancy to
\nthe city's significant improvement of its health facilities as
\nwell as the improvement of its social economic welfare.<\/p>\n
\"Keep staying healthy by consuming balanced and nutritious
\nfood, doing some exercises, quitting smoking and drinking
\nalcoholic beverages,\" Surjadi said.<\/p>\n
He expressed hopes that every health center in Jakarta from
\nsmall local clinics to big hospitals give equal treatment to all
\nof their patients, regardless of their social status.<\/p>\n
The Jakarta Islamic Hospital's head, HA Sanusi hoped that with
\nits newly-granted radiology unit, the hospital would be able to
\nprovide quicker service to its patients.<\/p>\n
He said the hospital has already allocated Rp 500 million
\n(US$217,391) for its annual social programs, such as providing
\nfree harelips and cataract surgery. (26)<\/p>",
