        "content": "<p>Jakarta targets 1.5m foreign tourists<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The city administration has predicted that<br>\naround 1.5 million foreign tourists will visit the capital this<br>\nyear.<\/p>\n<p>Fauzi Bowo, the head of the city tourism office, told<br>\nreporters on Saturday that the number of foreign tourists<br>\nvisiting Jakarta is expected to increase by 10 to 15 percent from<br>\nthe 1.3 million visitors last year.<\/p>\n<p>On a national level, data shows that four million tourists<br>\nvisited Indonesia last year, an increase of 17.8 percent from 3.4<br>\nmillion people in 1993.<\/p>\n<p>\"The target is realistic, especially in view of the city's<br>\nrapid economic growth,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Fauzi said that the convention and exhibition businesses have<br>\nremained the firm mainstay of the city in luring foreign<br>\ntourists.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed guarded optimism that the city would reach the<br>\ntarget, \"given the generally excellent meeting and exhibition<br>\nfacilities provided by the managements of hotels as well as<br>\noffice buildings.\"<\/p>\n<p>He also said that multi-purpose buildings such as the Jakarta<br>\nConvention Center, in Senayan, South Jakarta and Trade Mart<br>\nCenter in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, could well cater to the<br>\nneed of tourists who generally seek the comfort of Meeting,<br>\nIncentives, Convenience and Exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>\"Unlike any other places in the country where foreigners come<br>\nmerely for pleasure, the main intention of foreign tourists to<br>\nvisit the capital is generally for business,\" he said, adding<br>\nthat usually they seek recreation after their business activities<br>\nare over.<\/p>\n<p>He said the city has many advantages compared with other<br>\ncities in the countries. \"The city has many multilingual and<br>\nprofessionally trained convention organizers as well as highly<br>\nexperienced tourist guides and operators.\"<\/p>\n<p>Since 1993, the city administration has simultaneously<br>\npromoted various aspects of the city, including tourism, trade<br>\nand investment sectors to the international community.<\/p>\n<p>However, Fauzi acknowledged that coordination between related<br>\noffices still needs improvement in order to attract more tourists<br>\nand offer better services to them.(32)<\/p>",
