The Jakarta Department of Empowerment, Child Protection, and\nPopulation Control (PPAPP) is strengthening public capacity regarding\nprevention, self-protection, and reporting when indications of the\ncriminal act of human trafficking (TPPO) are found.<\/p>\n
One of these strengthening efforts was carried out through an online\nseminar themed \u201cBeware of TPPO in the Digital Era: Recognise the\nMethods, Protect Yourself, Save Others\u201d, which involved residents across\nJakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, Head of the Jakarta PPAPP Department Dwi Oktavia\nsaid that preventing TPPO in Jakarta is highly complex and therefore\nrequires the participation of all parties.<\/p>\n
According to her, digital connectivity enables increasingly diverse\nmethods used by TPPO perpetrators, so complex prevention efforts are\nneeded.<\/p>\n
\u201cPrevention must start from the upstream, starting from us having\ndigital literacy or understanding that if we want to use the internet or\nuse a mobile phone, what is allowed and what is not. Do not spread our\nNIK number in the digital world and so on,\u201d said Dwi.<\/p>\n
She said prevention efforts that can be undertaken include\nstrengthening the digital literacy of parents and children as well as\nbuilding the ability to recognise the methods used by TPPO perpetrators\nin seeking their victims.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo that children also have good digital literacy and then do not\nbecome victims of TPPO because of using the internet unwisely,\u201d said\nDwi.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, it is important to recognise this so that we can avoid the crime\nof human trafficking,\u201d said Dwi.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, National Coordinator of ECPAT Indonesia Andy Ardian\nsaid TPPO, including in Jakarta, uses a number of methods, including job\nrecruitment, contract marriage, scams, and online gambling.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere have also been cases involving contract marriage. Previously\nthese usually occurred in Singkawang, in the Kalimantan region, but it\nturns out that some of the victims also came from Jakarta. Then, cases\nrelated to scams and online gambling also actually involve Jakarta\nresidents,\u201d said Andy.<\/p>\n
He explained that in the January\u2013March 2025 period, the Indonesian\nNational Police handled 609 TPPO cases with 1,503 victims.
