        "content": "<p>Jakarta streets <br>\nand crime<\/p>\n<p>The recent murder of Brig. Gen. Tampubolon shocked us, no <br>\nmatter what the motive behind it was. One of the best Indonesian <br>\narmy officers had to die in such a miserable way.<\/p>\n<p>This reminds us of how dangerous Jakarta's streets really are. <br>\nViolence and robbery in the streets is on the rise.<\/p>\n<p>Last February police officers began an operation to rid the <br>\nstreets of criminals, but the most dangerous places have yet to <br>\nbe patrolled. The criminals in those areas are unquestionably <br>\nmore sadistic in their methods.<\/p>\n<p>But we realize that the budget for such operations is limited <br>\nand the number of police officers is inadequate. Though we <br>\nrecognize that violence is commonplace in a metropolis like <br>\nJakarta, we must also understand the anxiety of the Jakarta <br>\nresidents. Certainly we do not wish to see more violence.<\/p>\n<p>We hope that police officers play a greater role in defending <br>\nthe public from criminals who feel they have nothing to lose by <br>\ntheir actions.<\/p>\n<p>-- Republika, Jakarta<\/p>",
