Jakarta Metropolitan Police have transferred two suspects in the case
of alleged defamation involving former President Joko Widodo’s academic
credentials to the prosecutor’s office. The handover of Roy Suryo and
Tifauziah Tyassuma, known as Doctor Tifa, took place on Monday, 22 June
2026, following their arrest and detention on Friday, 19 June 2026.

Director of General Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metropolitan
Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, stated that the arrest and
entire investigation process were carried out in strict accordance with
prevailing legal procedures. He emphasised that investigators
consistently adhered to the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

‘We can confirm that all stages conducted by investigators from the
General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Jakarta Metropolitan
Police have complied with KUHAP procedures,’ he said at police
headquarters on Monday.

Imanuddin also firmly denied any external intervention in the
handling of the case. He suggested that if any interference occurred, it
was more likely to be attempts by certain parties to obstruct or disrupt
the investigation process. ‘If there was intervention, it would be more
accurately described as attempts to hinder, disturb, or obstruct the
investigation process,’ he stated.

He assured that the police remained independent and continued the
investigation based solely on the provisions outlined in the KUHAP.
‘Regarding any efforts, or as you may have seen or heard, including from
a former official who still acts as if they hold office, we remain
guided by the KUHAP which regulates the investigation process,’ he
added.

Imanuddin called on all parties to respect the ongoing legal process
and urged against building provocative narratives on social media. He
noted that all procedures have clear boundaries, and if any party feels
there are irregularities, they can utilise available legal mechanisms
such as a pre-trial motion. Furthermore, if there are suspicions or
allegations regarding the conduct of investigators, an internal
supervisory body exists which can be used by all parties to monitor and
control the investigation process.
",
