New Regulations for Padel Courts in Jakarta Following Resident\nProtests<\/p>\n
The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) has\nestablished new regulations for padel court operators to ensure the\nsafety, comfort, and order of residents. These new rules were\nimplemented following public outcry over padel courts in Jakarta, which\nwere criticised for causing noise pollution.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that every policy will be based\non comprehensive discussions with relevant departments. He assured that\nthe Jakarta Provincial Government will address any issues that impact\nthe comfort of residents.<\/p>\n

Operating Hours Regulations<\/p>\n
Pramono has limited the operating hours of padel courts in\nresidential areas to a maximum of 8:00 PM. Padel courts in residential\nareas must have a Building Approval Permit (PBG). Pramono has requested\nthat mayors and sub-district heads negotiate with residents.<\/p>\n
\u201cNegotiate with residents and set a maximum time limit for the use of\nthe padel courts, which should not exceed 8:00 PM. Therefore, for all\npadel courts in residential areas, the maximum operating time, even with\na PBG permit, is 8:00 PM,\u201d said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday\n(February 24).<\/p>\n
Prohibition of Padel Courts in Residential Areas<\/p>\n
Pramono also prohibited the construction of new padel courts in\nresidential areas. He stated that the construction of new padel courts\nmust be done in commercial areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been decided that new permits for the construction of padel\ncourts will not be allowed in residential areas. All new constructions\nmust be in commercial zones,\u201d said Pramono.<\/p>\n
Pramono said that if padel courts in residential areas cause noise\npollution, the operators must soundproof the courts.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the padel courts cause noise pollution due to the bouncing of the\nball and shouting, which disturbs residents, then such padel courts in\nresidential areas are required to be soundproofed. The bouncing of the\nball should not disturb the residents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Must Obtain Dispora Permit<\/p>\n
Pramono also said that the construction of new padel courts must also\nobtain technical permits from the Youth and Sports Department\n(Dispora).<\/p>\n
\u201cMost importantly, for the construction of new padel courts, they\nmust obtain initial technical approval from the Youth and Sports\nDepartment. This will serve as a reference so that not everyone who\nwants to build a padel court can simply do so in Jakarta,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Pramono emphasised that the tightening of permit requirements is not\nto hinder the popularity of padel, but to ensure that land use and\nenvironmental comfort are maintained.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do not want this sporting hobby to develop without clear rules\nand ultimately harm the surrounding community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Arrangement of Padel Player Parking<\/p>\n
Pramono also acknowledged complaints about padel players parking\ntheir cars haphazardly in residential areas. Pramono said that he would\ntake action to address this.<\/p>\n
\u201cParking. This is a problem because, I\u2019m sorry, most padel players\nare people who have the ability to drive their own cars. And they often\npark in residential areas because there is no parking space, so they\npark haphazardly. This is very disruptive to residents,\u201d said\nPramono.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that parking is one of the three main complaints of the\ncommunity, in addition to noise and operating hours that are too late.\nAccording to Pramono, many padel courts in residential areas do not have\nadequate parking space.<\/p>\n

Demolition of Padel Courts Without PBG Permits<\/p>\n
Pramono ordered the demolition of padel courts that do not have a\ngovernment permit in the form of a Building Approval Permit (PBG).<\/p>\n
In total, there are 397 padel courts in Jakarta. He suspects that\nsome padel courts do not have a PBG.<\/p>\n
\u201cBuildings or padel courts that do not have a PBG (Building Approval\nPermit) will have their activities stopped, be demolished, and their\nbusiness permits revoked, because we suspect that there are some. The Jakarta Provincial Government recorded that as many as 185 padel\ncourts operating in the capital do not have a building approval permit\n(PBG).<\/p>\n
The Head of the Department of Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land\nAffairs of Jakarta, Vera Revina Sari, said that of the total 397 padel\ncourts in Jakarta, 212 have a PBG.<\/p>\n
