Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has set a 10-day deadline to clear a significant accumulation of waste at the Pluit Reservoir flats in North Jakarta. The pile-up was caused by delays in transporting rubbish from temporary disposal sites to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Plant. The administration has deployed heavy equipment and personnel, and has ordered a review of waste management procedures to prevent future occurrences.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has targeted the
clearance of accumulated rubbish at the Waduk Pluit flats in North
Jakarta to be completed within 10 days at the latest, after the regional
government deployed personnel and heavy equipment to accelerate the
clean-up process.

Pramono said the rubbish build-up occurred due to delays in transport
queues from temporary disposal sites (TPS) to the Bantargebang
Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST).

“As we know, at the Waduk Pluit flats, because of delays in the
queues from the existing TPS to Bantargebang, a build-up occurred. And I
have asked for it to be resolved within 8 to 10 days at the latest,”
said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

He explained that the Jakarta Provincial Government had deployed one
unit of heavy equipment, three rubbish transport trucks and 10 personnel
working on site to speed up the handling of the waste.

“Today, one piece of heavy equipment, three trucks and 10 personnel
are working in the field. Over the next day or two we will add more, and
hopefully it will be finished within 8 to 10 days,” he said.

Pramono said additional vehicles and personnel would be adjusted
according to needs on the ground so that the waste transport process
could proceed more quickly and would not disturb the activities of the
flats’ residents.

Beyond short-term handling, he has asked for waste management at the
Waduk Pluit flats to be evaluated so that similar problems do not
recur.

According to Pramono, improvements in waste transport and management
governance are needed so that cleansing services in residential areas
can run more effectively, particularly when queues occur for sending
rubbish to the Bantargebang TPST.

“I have asked for the management of Waduk Pluit specifically to be
reorganised with better rules and methods. So that what is happening now
— the build-up and so on — does not happen again,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Waste and B3 Hazardous Materials
Management Section of the North Jakarta Environment Sub-department,
Ardiyanto, said the clean-up is targeted for completion within 7–10
days, with an estimated 30 transport trips.

“We are working intensively by optimising all vehicles, heavy
equipment and personnel in the field. The target is for the rubbish pile
to be handled within 10 days so that the TPS condition returns to normal
and cleansing services for residents run well,” said Ardiyanto.
",
