A fire brigade section chief from the Cipayung Sector, Andriyono,\ndied whilst on duty handling a fire at a waste pile in Kampung Dukuh,\nKramat Jati, East Jakarta. The site is an illegal waste transfer\npoint.<\/p>\n
Marulina Dewi, Head of the Jakarta Communication, Informatics and\nStatistics Agency (Kominfotik), said the land had frequently been used\nfor illegal waste dumping, resulting in waste accumulating in the area.\nThe waste at the site will now be removed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn line with post-fire handling, the Jakarta Provincial\nEnvironmental Agency will carry out waste removal in stages,\u201d Marulina\nDewi said in a statement quoted on Monday (3\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
In the first stage, the Jakarta Environmental Agency will remove\nwaste from areas that are safe and unaffected by the fire. The next\nstage will continue in the fire-affected area once it has been declared\nsafe by the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Disgulkarmat).<\/p>\n
To prevent repeated illegal dumping, the Jakarta provincial\ngovernment will tighten supervision whilst waste removal is underway.\nThose who dumped waste at the illegal site will also be punished.<\/p>\n
\u201cStarting next Monday, civil servant investigators (PPNS) from the\nEnvironmental Agency and the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) will\nconduct inquiries and investigations at the burn site. Those who dump\nwaste illegally will face firm sanctions,\u201d Marulina said.<\/p>\n
Marulina also urged residents not to dump waste at the site or on\nland not designated for that purpose. The provincial government has\nalready banned open dumping practices, particularly at illegal waste\ntransfer points.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn accordance with Governor\u2019s Instruction Number 5 of 2026, the\nJakarta provincial government continues to push for a change in waste\nmanagement patterns through the sort, transport, process and utilise\nmovement, and has prepared various waste processing facilities,\nincluding 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) transfer points, so that only\nresidual waste is sent to the Bantargebang waste treatment facility,\u201d\nshe said.<\/p>\n
As of Sunday afternoon (2\/8), Marulina said Disgulkarmat was still\ncarrying out cooling operations to prevent the spread of remaining fire\nbeneath the waste pile. Although the main fire had been extinguished,\nhandling continued given that the burning material consisted of waste\npiles.<\/p>\n
According to Marulina, embers could still smoulder in the lower\nlayers even when the surface appeared extinguished. She added that\nfirefighters had opened several points in the waste pile so that water\ncould reach the lower parts and extinguish the remaining embers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe focus of current operations is the fire beneath the waste pile.\nThe surface may be wet, but there is still a considerable amount of\nsmoke. This indicates there is still potential for the fire to spread to\ndepths of around one to two metres,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Death of a Firefighter<\/p>\n
The Jakarta provincial government expressed its deep condolences over\nthe death of Cipayung Sector fire section chief Andriyono, who died on\nduty extinguishing a waste pile fire on Jalan Penggilingan Baru, Dukuh\nVillage, Kramat Jati Subdistrict, East Jakarta, on Saturday (3\/8).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and\nwill ensure that his entitlements are fulfilled in accordance with\nprevailing regulations,\u201d said Bayu Megantara, Head of the Jakarta Fire\nand Rescue Agency.<\/p>\n
Bayu explained that his agency received the fire report on Saturday\n(1\/8) morning. Ten fire engines and 50 personnel were immediately\ndeployed to the scene. During the operation, the deceased was tasked\nwith finding a water source as operational support and was not at the\ndirect point of fire extinguishing.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhilst connecting a hose, the deceased suddenly complained of chest\npain. His colleague immediately requested medical assistance. He\nreceived initial treatment at the scene before being evacuated to\nHarapan Bunda Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1.30pm local\ntime.
