Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2013 The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is\nstrengthening the higher education, research and innovation ecosystem\nthrough the establishment of the Jakarta Education and Innovation\nCentre, in order to realise Jakarta as a global city capable of\nproducing excellent, innovative talent that offers solutions to various\nurban challenges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe establishment of the Jakarta Education and Innovation Centre is\na strategic step to strengthen collaboration between the government,\nuniversities, research institutes, the business community and\ninternational partners,\u201d said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung while\nopening the Focus Group Discussion on the Establishment of the Jakarta\nEducation and Innovation Centre at City Hall, Jakarta, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
According to him, cross-sector collaboration is the key to producing\ninnovations capable of answering urban challenges while enhancing\nJakarta\u2019s global competitiveness.<\/p>\n
\u201cJakarta has enormous challenges as well as potential. That is why we\nwant to make Jakarta the birthplace of research and innovation that can\nanswer urban problems and deliver real benefits to society,\u201d said\nPramono.<\/p>\n
He considered the diversity of the population, economic dynamism, and\nthe complexity of urban issues to make Jakarta an ideal living\nlaboratory for the development of education, research and\ninnovation.<\/p>\n
Therefore, he said, investment in education and research is a\nlong-term investment to strengthen Jakarta\u2019s competitiveness as a global\ncity.<\/p>\n
Previously, AT Kearney, together with Georgetown University, had also\nheld discussions with Danantara to formulate incentive schemes that\ncould increase Jakarta\u2019s appeal as a location for establishing\ninternationally benchmarked universities.<\/p>\n
Through the forum, it is hoped that policy recommendations will\nemerge on the institutional model, governance, international\npartnerships, regulatory support, and the implementation roadmap of the\nJakarta Education and Innovation Centre.<\/p>\n
All the results of the discussions will be followed up by the DKI\nJakarta Provincial Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) as one of the\nreferences in drafting policies and programme implementation plans.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope this cooperation continues. Going forward, we want more\nworld-class universities and research institutions to collaborate in\nJakarta, so that education and innovation become a new strength to boost\nJakarta\u2019s competitiveness as a global city,\u201d Pramono concluded.<\/p>\n
The FGD was attended by representatives of various national and\ninternational universities, including the Massachusetts Institute of\nTechnology (MIT), Stanford University, Georgetown University, Seoul\nNational University (SNU), Nanyang Technological University (NTU),\nPeking University, Brown University, The London School of Economics and\nPolitical Science (LSE), Monash University Indonesia, the University of\nIndonesia (UI), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Jakarta State\nUniversity (UNJ), and a number of other institutions.<\/p>\n
