        "content": "<p>The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has confirmed that dogs and\ncats are not food commodities, meaning the slaughter and sale of meat\nfrom these animals for consumption is prohibited. \u201cThis is the first\nGubernatorial Regulation issued in Indonesia that prohibits the public\nfrom slaughtering dogs and cats as animals for consumption. Because they\nare not categorised as food animals, they are not permitted to be sold\nfreely,\u201d said Hasudungan A. Sidabalok, Head of the DKI Jakarta Food\nSecurity, Marine Affairs and Agriculture (KPKP) Agency, during a\nRegional Coordination Meeting at the Antasari Room of the South Jakarta\nMayor\u2019s Office on Thursday. Hasudungan stated that Jakarta has a\nregulation that strictly prohibits the slaughter and sale of dog and cat\nmeat for consumption. The policy is stipulated through Gubernatorial\nRegulation No.\u00a036 of 2025 concerning Rabies Control. He added that based\non data collection, only one location in South Jakarta was previously\nfound selling dog meat, and an approach has been made to stop the sale\nof the product. Hasudungan noted that the policy has received a positive\nresponse from the international community and led to the Governor of DKI\nJakarta receiving an award in the field of animal welfare. \u201cLet us\ncollaborate together to create a healthy environment, healthy for the\nanimals and their owners. Regarding information on KPKP programmes,\nresidents can view it on available social media,\u201d he said. Meanwhile,\nSouth Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo requested all regional elements to\nhelp oversee the implementation of the regulation, even though\nindications of dog and cat meat sales in South Jakarta are relatively\nfew compared to other areas. \u201cSo, we all must support the rules set by\nthe Governor of DKI Jakarta. From the sub-district to the city level, we\nmust synergise together,\u201d he stated.
