The Jakarta Education Office (Disdik DKI) has acknowledged that many\nstate school buildings in the capital are ageing and require repair.<\/p>\n
Head of the Jakarta Education Office Nahdiana said this was one of\nthe reasons the Jakarta Provincial Government is mapping out which\nschools should be prioritised for revitalisation.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we classify them by when they were built, some of our buildings\nwere constructed before I was even born,\u201d Nahdiana said during a working\nmeeting with Commission E of the Jakarta Regional People\u2019s\nRepresentative Council (DPRD DKI) at the DPRD DKI building in Gambir,\nCentral Jakarta, on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to the Education Office\u2019s data, Nahdiana noted that some\nschools were even established before 1947. Several of these are cultural\nheritage buildings, requiring special handling.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo among these, 13 buildings are heritage structures,\u201d Nahdiana\nexplained.<\/p>\n
She added that only around 40 per cent of school buildings in Jakarta\nwere built within the last 20 years.<\/p>\n
This means many school buildings are more than 20 years old and\nrequire attention.<\/p>\n
To address this, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has formed a School\nBuilding Revitalisation Acceleration Team.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is steered by the Assistant for Development and the Environment,\nand the Assistant for People\u2019s Welfare. The chair is the Deputy Head of\nthe Education Office, with the secretary being the Head of the Education\nFacilities and Infrastructure UPT and the Head of the Buildings Division\nat the Regional Government Buildings and Public Works Office. Its\nmembers include the Inspectorate, the mayors, Bappeda, BPKD, BPAD, the\nPublic Works Office, BPMPTSP, Diskominfotik, PLH, BPPBJ, and Kesos,\u201d\nNahdiana said.<\/p>\n
Nahdiana further explained that the team will not only inspect the 22\nschools already on the revitalisation list.<\/p>\n
The team will also review other schools suspected of suffering damage\nso that development priorities can be more accurately targeted.<\/p>\n
\u201cLater it will become clear whether a school needs a complete\noverhaul, or just heavy renovation and so on. Because that team will\ndetermine the development priorities. In simple terms, everything will\nbe put in order,\u201d Nahdiana said.<\/p>\n
