JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Car-Free Day (CFD) in Jakarta has been
cancelled this Sunday (31 May 2026) to mark Waisak Day 2570 BE. With the
cancellation, the Sudirman-Thamrin corridor, typically closed to traffic
on Sunday mornings, will reopen to general traffic. The information was
announced by the Jakarta Transportation Department via its official
Instagram account. “To mark Waisak Day 2570 BE, the Car-Free Day (CFD)
on Sunday, 31 May 2026 has been cancelled,” the department stated. The
department urged the public to adhere to traffic regulations and
prioritise road safety during the extended holiday period. The Jakarta
Transportation Department explained that the CFD cancellation was
carried out under Article 5(1) of Jakarta Provincial Regulation No. 12
of 2026 concerning the Implementation of Car-Free Days. Therefore, CFD
activities on key Jakarta routes, including the Sudirman-Thamrin
corridor, will not take place this Sunday. Special Staff to the Jakarta
Governor for Public Communication, Chico Hakim, said the Rasuna Said CFD
will now run every Sunday from 5:30 AM to 9:00 AM. “The Jakarta
Provincial Government has decided that the Car-Free Day (HBKB) on HR
Rasuna Said Road will resume on a regular basis from Sunday, 7 June
2026, every Sunday from 5:30 AM to 9:00 AM,” Chico said on Friday, 29
May 2026. According to Chico, the duration of the Rasuna Said CFD is
shorter than the Sudirman-Thamrin event, which typically runs until
10:00 AM. This adjustment is due to increasing office activity and
public mobility in the Rasuna Said area as noon approaches. “The
schedule was deliberately shortened compared to Sudirman-Thamrin to
account for rising traffic and office activity in the area from 10:00
AM,” he added. The government has set Eid al-Adha 1447 AH on Wednesday,
27 May 2026, followed by a communal holiday on Thursday, 28 May.
Meanwhile, Sunday, 31 May 2026 coincides with Waisak Day 2570 BE, and
Monday, 1 June is Pancasila Day. With an additional holiday on Friday,
29 May, the public could enjoy a six-day consecutive break.
",
