Jakarta’s provincial government has disbursed a budget of Rp1.9
trillion from 2018 to 2025 to reduce the number of slum areas in the
capital. ‘In total, the budget for the arrangement of slum areas
implemented during the 2018 to 2025 period amounts to around Rp1.9
trillion. Therefore, the average annual allocation is in the range of
Rp200 billion,’ said Kelik Indriyanto, Head of the Housing and
Settlement Areas Office (DPRKP) of DKI Jakarta, in Central Jakarta on
Friday. He explained that the Jakarta Provincial Government consistently
allocates budgets for slum area improvement through various programmes
to enhance the quality of settlements. According to the latest data
gathered by the Jakarta Provincial Government in collaboration with the
Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of slum RW in Jakarta has
declined to 211 from 445 RW in 2017. The 52.58% reduction is an
important achievement in improving residents’ living environments. Areas
such as Tambora have become a focus due to high settlement complexity
and require measured interventions. Kelik admitted that there are still
slum areas in the two regions, but presently there are no RW classified
as heavy slum in the capital. The remaining slum RW in Jakarta are
categorised as moderate, light, and very light slums. Looking ahead, he
confirmed that the programme to reduce slum RW in Jakarta will continue.
The target is that 50 slum RW can be addressed by next year. Kelik said
the Jakarta Government will also collaborate with the Central Statistics
Agency (BPS) to tackle slum RW. ‘The programme will continue, and with
the results from BPS, we will truly address the areas designated as slum
according to the central points. We will therefore work together with
BPS DKI, including those who detail RTs where there is slum, because
according to BPS if there is one RT that is slum, it is then referred to
as a slum RW,’ he explained.
",
