        "content": "<p>Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has revealed that his region is one of\nthe cities with the worst air quality in the world. He acknowledged this\nas one of the problems that has not yet been fully resolved.<\/p>\n<p>Pramono said that the Jakarta Provincial Government has continued to\nprioritise the development of public transport services. The aim is to\nencourage more people to use public transport, so that congestion and\npollution can be reduced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur connectivity now stands at 93 percent, and the number of people\nwho use public transport on a regular basis has now exceeded 31 percent,\nup from around 23 percent previously,\u201d he said on Thursday\n(20\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the increase in public transport users in Jakarta has\nnot been able to resolve the existing pollution problem. Jakarta remains\none of the cities with the worst air quality in the world. \u201cAs you know,\nJakarta was recently ranked number five, but it is indeed among the\nworst in the world, and I have to admit that,\u201d Pramono said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Pramono, Jakarta\u2019s poor air quality is not solely due to\ninadequate public transport. He believes there are other issues\npreventing the pollution problem from being resolved, one of which is\nthe presence of the coal industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are other issues, for example the burning by industries in the\nring around Jakarta, one of the most well-known being Suralaya, which\nstill uses fuel that is not environmentally friendly,\u201d said the PDIP\npolitician.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, the Jakarta Provincial Government will coordinate\nwith the central government to address the problem. It is hoped that\nJakarta\u2019s air quality can thereby improve. \u201cAs Governor of Jakarta, I\nhope there will be coordination with the central government so that\nthose contributing to high emissions can be regulated together,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>",
