Jail term sought for
\nGolkar politician<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Prosecutors demanded on Wednesday an eight-year jail
\nsentence for Golkar Party lawmaker Adiwarsita Adinegoro for graft
\nat the Association of Indonesian Forestry Concessionaires (APHI),
\nwhich allegedly occurred between 2002 and 2003 when Adiwarsita
\nled the organization.<\/p>\n
Lead prosecutor M. Jasman Panjaitan also demanded that the
\ndefendant and three other former APHI officials, Yusron Sarief,
\nZain Mashur and Abdul Fatah, who are standing trial separately,
\nreturn Rp 43 billion in state money they allegedly embezzled.<\/p>\n
In a separate hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors sought a four-
\nyear jail sentence for Yusron.<\/p>\n
The defendants are charged with misusing APHI funds that were
\nmeant to finance aerial mapping of forests. Prosecutors charge
\nthat the money was instead channeled to a foundation appointed by
\nthen state secretary Akbar Tanjung, who was also a Golkar leader,

NUSA DUA, Bali: Vice President Jusuf Kalla called on countries
\nthat export and import migrant workers to help the workers
\nimprove their skills.<\/p>\n
Opening the third Ministerial Consultations on Overseas
\nEmployment and Contractual Labor for Countries of Origin in Asia
\nhere on Wednesday, Kalla said countries should not treat migrant
\nworkers as disposable commodities.<\/p>\n
Indonesian labor minister Fahmi Idris and counterparts from
\nseveral Asian countries, as well as the director of the
\nInternational Organization for Migration, Brunson McKinley, also
\nattended the meeting.<\/p>\n
Fahmi said participants of the meeting would discuss various
\nissues concerning migrant workers, including improving their job

17 Aceh inmates
\nin jail break<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Lax security meant 17 inmates in Aceh Besar
\nPrison escaped from their cells at dawn on Tuesday, the third
\nescape from the jail this year.<\/p>\n
Jantho Prison Warden Abdullah Arja said the inmates punched
\nthrough the prison's roof and scaled the prison's wall with the
\nhelp of a rope.<\/p>\n
All were in prison for common crimes and none were former
\nmembers of the rebel Free Aceh Movement (GAM).<\/p>\n
Abdullah said that out of the 17 inmates, 13 had been
\nconvicted while the remaining four were awaiting trial.<\/p>\n
Only a few prison guards were on duty when the jail break
\noccurred.<\/p>\n
The escape was the third this year. Early in July, five
\ninmates escaped the prison in two separate occassions. They are

Ex-conjoined twins
\nreturn to East Aceh<\/p>\n
MEDAN, North Sumatra: After recovering in hospital for a
\nmonth, two formerly conjoined babies, Mariana and Mariani, were
\nallowed to return home to East Aceh regency on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The release of the two babies was marked by an emotional
\nceremony at the Adam Malik Hospital, which was attended by family
\nmembers, hospital staff and doctors.<\/p>\n
Mariana and Mariani, 11-month-old girls joined at the abdomen
\nand chest but who have separate internal organs, were
\nsuccessfully separated last month at the hospital. The surgery,
\nwhich was carried out by 20 doctors, took five hours.<\/p>\n
Hospital chief surgeon Guslihan Dasa Tjipta said that the
\nbabies were in good health and their weights were rising.<\/p>\n
Mariana was now 7.8 kilograms while Mariani was 7.6 kg, he
