        "content": "<p>ITTO aid for RI forests<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The International Tropical Timber Organization<br>\n(ITTO) yesterday agreed to provide Rp 2.5 billion (US$1.15<br>\nmillion) in grant to the Indonesian government to support the<br>\nconservation of Bentuang Karimun forests in West Kalimantan.<\/p>\n<p>B.C.Y. Freezailah, the executive director of ITTO, signed the<br>\ngrant agreement with Director General of Forest Conservation<br>\nSoedjadi Hartono in a ceremony here, which was attended by<br>\nMinister of Forestry Djamaludin Suryohadikusumo.<\/p>\n<p>Freezailah said that ITTO helps finance the socio-economic and<br>\nbiodiversity research to preserve the 800,000 hectares of forests<br>\nin Bentuang Karimun, whose location is close to the Lanjak<br>\nEntimau conservation of Sarawak, Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>He said that Indonesia and Malaysia will jointly conduct the<br>\nresearch to help increase the social welfare of indigenous people<br>\naround the forests.<\/p>\n<p>The project is aimed to improve the forest management system<br>\nwhich is not only stressed on species and ecosystem conservation<br>\nbut also the interests of local people.<\/p>\n<p>The two countries will sign an agreement in October to manage<br>\nthe natural forest resources and develop eco-tourism in Bentuang<br>\nKarimun.
