Jakarta \u2014 The acceleration of the energy transition and the growth of\nartificial intelligence (AI) are seen as transforming world labour needs\nsignificantly. As a result, engineering graduates are required to be\nmore adaptable to compete amid the ongoing transformation of the energy\nand technology industries worldwide.<\/p>\n
This was stated at the 48th graduation ceremony of Institut Teknologi\nPLN (ITPLN), which graduated 424 students in Jakarta under the theme\n\u2018Outstanding Engineers, The Key to Energy Resilience and\nTransformation\u2019.<\/p>\n
ITPLN Rector Iwa Garniwa Mulyana said the labour market today moves\nvery quickly in line with technological change, the energy transition,\nand global geopolitical dynamics. He argued that engineering graduates\nshould not only master academic skills but also be able to adapt to\nindustry changes.<\/p>\n
\u2018ITPLN is not just an energy campus, but a campus for energy\ntransition. We are facing a situation moving toward net zero emissions\nand extraordinary energy geopolitics challenges,\u2019 he said, in a\nstatement on Thursday (21 May 2026).<\/p>\n
According to him, this year\u2019s graduation theme underlines the\nimportance of engineering talent who are innovative and capable of\nsupporting national energy resilience amid the transforming global\nenergy sector.<\/p>\n
Iwa noted that developments in AI, changes in the energy supply\nchain, and increasing geopolitical pressures present new challenges that\ngraduates must face. Therefore, adaptability becomes a major factor in\nthe professional world today.<\/p>\n
\u2018The energy transition is accelerating, AI is changing how we work,\ngeopolitics are heating up, and job markets are changing faster than\ncurricula. The key word is adaptability,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
He also highlighted ITPLN students\u2019 achievements at the international\nlevel. In a competition with more than 700 teams in Malaysia, ITPLN\nstudents won gold medals. He said this demonstrated that Indonesian\ntalent can compete globally.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Head of LLDIKTI Region III, Henri Togar Hasiholan\nTambunan, said engineering graduates today need to strike a balance\nbetween technical ability and humane values.<\/p>\n
He noted that while AI development and automation are indeed\nreshaping many technical jobs, technology cannot replace human empathy\nand social responsibility.<\/p>\n
\u2018An outstanding engineer is not only about intellectual intelligence\nbut also the heart they bring to work,\u2019 said Henri.<\/p>\n
He assessed that engineers\u2019 future role will not only involve\nmastering technology but also contributing to environmental protection\nand expanding energy access for communities.<\/p>\n
