        "content": "<p>Itochu joins Perwaja Steel<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Itochu Corp. of Japan has bought a five<br>\npercent stake in Malaysia's state-owned Perwaja Steel, one of<br>\nSoutheast Asia's largest integrated steel producers, reports said<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Perwaja corporate director K.H. Kong said the new shares were<br>\nissued to Itochu Corp. at three ringgit (US$1.20) each at a<br>\npremium of two ringgit per share above the nominal value of one<br>\nringgit per share.<\/p>\n<p>The finance and international trade and industry ministries<br>\nhave approved the share subscription, Kong was reported saying in<br>\nlocal news reports.<\/p>\n<p>Itochu will not have any board representation or interest in<br>\nthe management of the company, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\"Itochu's participation reflects the Japanese endorsement and<br>\nconfidence in the future of Perwaja Steel,\" Kong said.<\/p>\n<p>Perwaja, once a troubled company, is now Malaysia's largest<br>\nproducer of steel billets and blooms.<\/p>",
