The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) has become the first campus\nin Bandung to provide electronic waste management facilities using an\nautomated machine. Through ByeByeBox, users can deposit small electronic\ndevices that are no longer in use and receive bonus internet data based\non the weight of the waste collected.<\/p>\n
Users can bring their unused small electronic devices and follow the\ninstructions on the ByeByeBox screen. The devices are scanned and\nvalidated using cameras and AI technology, then automatically weighed\nand recorded in the Remind system.<\/p>\n
The collected electronic waste is subsequently processed through a\nmaterial recovery approach and more responsible management. Materials\nthat still hold value are returned to the utilisation cycle in line with\ncircular economy principles.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Dzikri Ahira Soefihara, Founder and CEO of Remind, an\nelectronic waste management platform, said his side developed the\nByeByeBox application to make e-waste processing more accessible and\nmeasurable. The facility also supports the collection, recording and\nmaterial recovery process.<\/p>\n
\u201cElectronic devices that are no longer used can still hold value in\nthe next utilisation cycle,\u201d he said on Monday (14\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Director and Chief Regulatory Officer of XL SMART, Merza\nFachys, said the growth of connectivity and digital technology must go\nhand in hand with responsibility for managing environmental impacts. The\ncompany wants to make e-waste management easier, closer and more\nrelevant for the younger generation.<\/p>\n
He said the programme forms part of efforts to build an increasingly\nresponsible and sustainable digital ecosystem, as well as to strengthen\nthe implementation of ESG and Sustainability.<\/p>\n
Merza said the e-waste management programme at ITB is independently\nassessed by CDP and Fitch Ratings ESG. The programme runs from 14 to 28\nSeptember 2026 and targets the collection of 600 kilogrammes of\nelectronic waste.<\/p>\n
Users of XL, AXIS and Smartfren can receive bonus main data based on\nthe weight of the electronic waste collected. The bonus offered is 500\nMB for waste under 1 kilogramme, 1 GB for 1\u20132 kilogrammes, and 1.5 GB\nfor more than 2 kilogrammes, valid for one day.<\/p>\n
