Jakarta (ANTARA) - An automotive expert from the Bandung Institute of\nTechnology (ITB), Yannes Martinus Pasaribu, has reminded vehicle owners\nnot to simply park and lock their cars or motorcycles during \u2018mudik\u2019, as\nthere are several technical risks that can arise if vehicles are left\nwithout preparation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to prepare the car or motorcycle in a safe storage\ncondition, not just park it and lock it,\u201d said Yannes when contacted by\nANTARA from Jakarta, Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He explained that one of the main risks is a drained battery.<\/p>\n
If the battery is already weak, he said, the vehicle may fail to\nstart when the owner returns from \u2018mudik\u2019.<\/p>\n
In addition, a fuel tank that is too empty can also trigger\ncondensation.<\/p>\n
Therefore, Yannes advises that the tank be filled to at least\nthree-quarters before being left.<\/p>\n
Another risk that is often overlooked is the deformation of the tires\nor flat spots due to improper tire pressure.<\/p>\n
Yannes also reminds people to clean the cabin of any leftover food or\norganic matter to prevent mice and mold.<\/p>\n
\u201cWash the body and undercarriage of the vehicle, then make sure it is\ndry so that moisture does not trigger rust,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Initial checks, such as checking for fluid leaks, tire condition,\nengine compartment, and brake function, need to be carried out to ensure\nsafety and optimal performance.<\/p>\n
