        "content": "<p>Undeterred by bearish global economic conditions, Ohio-based Teradata, a giant information and technology firm specializing in data warehousing, is set to open an office in Indonesia today because of promising prospects in the local market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndonesia is one of the largest markets in Southeast Asia,\u201d said Loh Giap Lim, country manager for Tdata Indonesia, the local unit of Teradata.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also see that the businesses are maturing and they are beginning to look for services and products that we can provide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would not expect big growth in the first year,\u201d Lim said, adding that it may be lower than 10 percent.<\/p>\n<p>However, Lim declined to give more details. The company said it has several clients, the biggest being one of the top publicly-listed telecommunications providers in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAside from the telecoms sector, we also focus on serving clients in banking, manufacturing, and retail,\u201d Lim said.<\/p>\n<p>Ikhsan Binarto, an IT analyst at Jakarta-based Optima Sekuritas, said that Teradata\u2019s move was a smart one because there were not too many big competitors in the current IT market, especially in data warehousing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndonesia\u2019s market is still big enough for new players,\u201d he said, adding that Teradata could now compete with big players like Oracle, IBM, and Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, Teradata\u2019s sales in the Asia Pacific and Japan region increased 4 percent to $327 million from 2007, while the company's net profit stood at $250 million compared with $200 million in the previous year.<\/p>",
