Issues that invite risks<\/p>\n
According to President Soeharto, in carrying out nation
\nbuilding we inevitably have to face challenges and obstructions
\nboth from within and without. One potential negative situation
\nhas been caused by the economic globalization and penetration of
\nforeign culture with the support of its sophisticated technology
\nand information systems.<\/p>\n
Technological advancements have made the planet shrink. So,
\nany issue which emerges in one country will promptly reach and
\ndevelop in another, especially if the issue has a political as
\nwell as social implications. The issues of Human Rights,
\nopenness, democratization and environment, for example, have been
\nintensively voiced by the developed countries since the late
\n1980s. At the same time these became a heated issues in
\ndeveloping countries as well.<\/p>\n
In fact, all these issues have been included in our national
\ndevelopment, although they are seen in different setting with
\nwhat is commonly practiced in developed countries. Surely
\nenforcement of these values in an unconstitutional and democratic
\nmanner will only create dangerous situations.<\/p>\n
