Two right-wing ministers in Israel\u2019s government have launched sharp\ncriticism against a peace agreement between the United States under\nDonald Trump\u2019s leadership and Iran. The deal, designed to end conflicts\nin the Middle East, including in Lebanon, is instead seen as threatening\nIsrael\u2019s national security.<\/p>\n
Israel\u2019s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, openly stated\nthat Israel is not bound by the agreement reached between Washington and\nTehran. He stressed that the Israeli military must continue to apply\npressure on its enemies without compromise.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Trump deal does not bind us. We are not a party to this\nagreement and it does not guarantee our security,\u201d Ben Gvir asserted via\nhis personal Telegram channel on Monday.<\/p>\n
Ben Gvir added that Israel must not accept any option other than the\ncomplete dismantling of Hezbollah\u2019s forces in Lebanon. He also firmly\nrejected the discourse of withdrawing troops from areas currently\ncontrolled by the Israeli military. \u201cWe must not retreat a single inch\nfrom territories that our soldiers have captured and cleared of\nterrorist infrastructure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Echoing Ben Gvir, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also gave a\nnegative assessment of the US diplomatic move. According to him, a\npermanent halt to military operations on the various current conflict\nfronts would only harm Israel\u2019s strategic position. \u201cThis deal is bad\nfor Israel,\u201d Smotrich stated. Although acknowledging that joint\nUS-Israeli operations in recent months have weakened Iran, he argued\nthat this momentum should be used to topple the Tehran regime, not to\nmake peace.<\/p>\n
Smotrich urged the Israeli government to continue a creative campaign\nto ensure Iran never gains access to nuclear weapons. \u201cWe must continue\nthe campaign to bring down that regime and ensure Iran never obtains\nnuclear weapons,\u201d he said.
