The Indonesian government issued a condemnation of Israel during an\nemergency session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held to\ndiscuss the attack on UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) in Lebanon at the\nend of March 2026.<\/p>\n
In the emergency session, Indonesia\u2019s Permanent Representative to the\nUN, Ambassador Umar Hadi, denounced Israel\u2019s attack in Lebanon and\nstated that the assault on peacekeeping troops did not occur in a\nvacuum.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe current escalation did not arise in a vacuum. It stems from\nrepeated attacks by the Israeli military on Lebanese territory,\u201d Umar\nHadi said during the session held at the UNSC headquarters in New York,\nUnited States, on Tuesday (31\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
As Umar delivered the condemnation loudly in English, the UN Web TV,\nwhich broadcast the session live, focused on the face of Israel\u2019s\nAmbassador to the UN, Danny Danon.<\/p>\n
Danny appeared engrossed in playing on his gadget. He was seen typing\non the device with the index fingers of both hands, left and right.<\/p>\n
Umar Hadi continued reading Indonesia\u2019s statement, describing the\nattack on peacekeeping forces not merely as an incident, but as a\ndeliberate assault undermining the mandate of UN Resolution 1701.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis attack also constitutes a direct threat to international peace\nand security and may amount to a war crime under international law.\nTherefore, we demand an immediate, thorough, and transparent\ninvestigation,\u201d Umar stated.<\/p>\n
For this reason, Umar urged the UNSC to follow up on the\ninvestigation results by holding the perpetrators legally\naccountable.<\/p>\n
At the same time, Indonesia demanded that all conflicting parties\nrespect international law and cease attacks endangering UN peacekeeping\npersonnel and property.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe make this demand as profound tribute to our fallen peacekeepers,\nto whom Indonesia extends its highest respect for their ultimate\nsacrifice in serving international peace and security,\u201d Umar said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo this end, Indonesia remains committed to contributing to the\nmaintenance of peace and security as mandated by our Constitution,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
