        "content": "<p>An Israeli air strike on Sunday (26 July 2026) killed a senior\nofficial of the internal security service run by Hamas in the Gaza\nStrip, along with one of his colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>The two were targeted whilst travelling in a vehicle in Deir\nAl-Balah, central Gaza, according to medics and local police\nofficials.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting Reuters on Sunday (26 July 2026), the victims were identified\nas Colonel Wael El-Ledawi, head of Hamas\u2019s internal security service in\ncentral Gaza, and Major Ramez Abu Zraiq. The information was provided by\nmedics and the Hamas-run Ministry of Interior.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli military confirmed it had carried out a strike against a\nHamas member, but gave no further details about the target of the\noperation.<\/p>\n<p>In recent months, Israel has killed dozens of members of the\nHamas-led police force, including senior officials, accusing many of\nthem of belonging to Hamas\u2019s armed wing and posing a direct threat to\nIsrael and its forces inside Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Hamas said Israel\u2019s strikes against the police force and its\nheadquarters were aimed at sowing chaos and anarchy in the territory and\nviolated the October ceasefire mediated by the United States between\nIsrael and Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>The latest deaths bring the toll to more than 1,190 Palestinians,\nmost of them civilians, killed by Israeli strikes since the ceasefire\ntook effect, according to Gaza health officials.<\/p>\n<p>Although the ceasefire halted full-scale fighting, it has not ended\nnear-daily Israeli attacks.
