        "content": "<p>Iran has suspended all mediated exchanges in peace talks with the\nUnited States (US), citing Israel\u2019s ongoing invasion of Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>According to AFP and Anadolu Agency on Monday, 1 June 2026, Iranian\nnews agency Tasnim reported that Tehran has halted all peace\nnegotiations with the US due to Israel\u2019s current invasion of\nLebanon.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The ongoing crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon, coupled with\nthe fact that Lebanon is a prerequisite for a ceasefire and that this\nceasefire has now been breached across all fronts, including Lebanon,\nhas led Iran\u2019s negotiation team to suspend dialogue and text exchanges\nthrough mediators,\u2019 Tasnim reported.<\/p>\n<p>Iran is demanding an \u2018immediate cessation\u2019 of Israeli military\noperations in Gaza and Lebanon, and the withdrawal of its forces from\noccupied territories in its northern neighbour as a condition for\nresuming talks.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli military forces have advanced further into southern Lebanon\nthan at any point since ending their occupation of the region in 2000,\nwarning residents in the southern suburbs of Beirut to evacuate ahead of\npotential strikes.<\/p>\n<p>Tasnim also reported that Iran and its allies have \u2018resolved to fully\nblock the Strait of Hormuz and activate another front, including the Bab\nal-Mandab Strait\u2019 at the entrance to the Red Sea.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian allies from Yemen, the Houthis, previously attacked ships in\nthe strait and surrounding waters, forcing vessels to take lengthy\ndetours around Africa instead of sailing through the Red Sea and Suez\nCanal.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan has been the main mediator in talks between Washington and\nTehran aimed at ending the war launched by the US and Israel, which has\nrapidly spread across the region.<\/p>\n<p>A ceasefire has been in place since 8 April and has held despite\noccasional incidents, but negotiations to end the war have so far\nfailed.<\/p>",
