Israel-Jordan peace treaty acclaimed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia, as a newly elected member of the
\nUnited Nations Security Council, gave its resounding support to
\nthe recently signed peace treaty between Jordan and Israel.<\/p>\n
\"Indonesia hopes that the treaty will be part of an overall
\nsolution to the Arab-Israeli issue,\" the foreign ministry
\nannounced on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Indonesia, chairman of the 111-member Non-Aligned Movement,
\nhopes that the treaty will encourage all sides to seek a
\ncomprehensive, peaceful and balanced solution to the problems
\nstill remaining.<\/p>\n
Witnessed by United States President Bill Clinton, King
\nHussein of Jordan and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin signed
\nthe historic agreement on Wednesday which marked an end to 46-
\nyears of hostility.<\/p>\n
In Saturday's announcement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
\nsaid Jakarta hopes that the treaty will lead further to the
\nsolution of the problems in the Middle East in accordance with UN
\nSecurity Council Resolution No. 242\/1967, Resolution No.
\n338\/1973, and Resolution No. 425\/1978. (mds)<\/p>",
