Israel has begun openly promoting cooperation with Indonesia. Through\nthe Zionist institution in Tel Aviv, the Israel-Asia Center, Israel has\npublished the Israel-Indonesia Future 2027 cooperation programme. The\nprogramme aims to recruit people from various fields in Indonesia in an\neffort to open diplomatic relations with Israel.<\/p>\n

The recruitment was announced openly and will begin in\nSeptember 2026.<\/p>\n
According to the portal, the Israel-Indonesia Future Programme 2027\nis part of a continuing campaign to gain acceptance for Israel in\ncountries that have so far rejected the establishment of the Zionist\nstate on the occupied land of Palestine. The campaign is said to be part\nof the Abraham Accords, which have been promoted since 2020 by Israel\nand the United States.<\/p>\n
Under the Abraham Accords, several Muslim-majority countries in the\nMiddle East that had previously not recognised Israel agreed to grant\nrecognition. The first countries to sign the Abraham Accords and\nrecognise the illegal Zionist state of Israel included the United Arab\nEmirates and Bahrain, followed by Morocco and Sudan in 2021.<\/p>\n
Before those countries agreed to the Abraham Accords, Israel had also\nsucceeded in bringing other Muslim-majority countries to open diplomatic\noffices with each other, such as Egypt, Jordan and Turkey. This was\nfollowed by Israel\u2019s diplomatic normalisation with Kazakhstan,\nUzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Senegal,\nAlbania and Kosovo. However, the strengthening of recognition of Israel\nhas not been fully successful.<\/p>\n
Two major Muslim-majority countries remain targets for normalisation\nbut have not yet been achieved: Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. In September\n2023, Israel, through the United States, persuaded Saudi Arabia to sign\nthe Abraham Accords and begin diplomatic relations. For Israel,\nsuccessful normalisation with Saudi Arabia would have an impact on\nIndonesia\u2019s openness to joining the Abraham Accords.<\/p>\n
\u201cNormalisation of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia will most\nlikely lead to a process of normalisation between Israel and Indonesia,\u201d\nstated Israelasiacenter.org. Israel blamed the delay in talks with Saudi\nArabia and Indonesia since 2023 on the situation and pressure from armed\nresistance factions in Gaza, Palestine, who are fighting Israeli\noccupation. \u201cThe events of 7 October 2023 carried out by Hamas were a\ndirect attempt to derail the normalisation talks,\u201d the website\nstated.<\/p>\n
However, according to Israel, there are strong signals from Saudi\nArabia to begin discussing the Abraham Accords. Meanwhile in Jakarta,\nIsrael believes the government of President Prabowo Subianto has also\ngiven strong signals for cooperation. Israel is confident that the\nopening greetings in President Prabowo\u2019s state speeches are a signal of\nopenness to cooperation between Indonesia and Tel Aviv.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe positive attitude and the message of \u2018shalom\u2019 delivered by\nPresident Prabowo at the United Nations General Assembly last year\nprovide hope for a better future between Israel and Indonesia,\u201d Israel\nstated. Through Israel-Indonesia Future 2027, the programme offers to\nopen constructive dialogues to build bridges between Israel and\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is to address the most pressing challenges today, such as in\nfood and water, energy, health services, financial inclusion, education,\nand cross-cultural understanding between Israel and Indonesia,\u201d the\nportal said. In the programme, Israel believes that there have in fact\nalready been individual interactions between Indonesian citizens seeking\nto create beneficial change with Tel Aviv.<\/p>\n

The Times of Israel reported that the Israel-Indonesia Future\nProgramme 2027 is not new. Authorities in Tel Aviv have long worked hard\nto make Indonesia one of the main target countries for normalisation.\nThe Israel-Indonesia Future Programme idea has been realised since 2022.\nAt that time, around 100 Israelis and Indonesians met in Jakarta to take\npart in the cross-sector cooperation programme.<\/p>\n
