Israeli forces have intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla\nhumanitarian mission, an armada of ships carrying aid to Gaza that\ndeparted from Turkey last week. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin\nNetanyahu has accused the mission of being an \u2018evil scheme\u2019 intended to\nsupport Hamas.<\/p>\n
According to a statement from his office, Netanyahu told the\ncommander of the intercepting forces, \u2018I believe you are doing an\nextraordinary job\u2026 thwarting an evil plan designed to violate the\nblockade we have imposed on the Hamas terrorists in Gaza.\u2019 He added that\nthe operation was carried out with great success and with far less\nfanfare than the enemy had anticipated.<\/p>\n
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs also described the convoy as\na provocation, vowing to prevent it from reaching Gaza. In a post on X,\nthe ministry stated, \u2018This time, two Turkish groups that commit\nviolence\u2014Mavi Marmara and IHH, the latter of which has been designated\nas a terrorist organisation\u2014are part of this provocation.\u2019<\/p>\n
The Global Sumud Flotilla is the latest in a series of activist\nattempts to break the Israeli blockade on the Palestinian territory. The\ngroup stated on X that the international humanitarian fleet was being\nattacked and that the Israeli occupation was illegally intercepting the\nfleet and \u2018kidnapping\u2019 volunteers. Tracking websites indicated that\nseveral ships were intercepted west of Cyprus.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu RI) has condemned\nIsrael\u2019s actions and is actively monitoring the condition of Indonesian\ncitizens involved in the mission. Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang stated\nthat the ministry is in communication regarding the status of Indonesian\nnationals.<\/p>\n
Currently, ten ships have been detained by Israel, including the\nAmanda, Barbaros, Josef, and Blue Toys. According to the Global Peace\nConvoy Indonesia (GPCI), an Indonesian citizen, Andi Angga Prasadewa, a\ndelegate from GPCI-Rumah Zakat, is aboard the ship Josef. The Ministry\nis also attempting to contact a ship carrying journalists from\nRepublika.<\/p>\n
Two journalists from Republika, Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai,\nhave been detained by Israeli soldiers. The Editor-in-Chief of\nRepublika, Andi Muhyiddin, expressed serious concern for their safety,\nnoting that nine Indonesian volunteers are part of the convoy.
