        "content": "<p>ISO certification for two more firms<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Publicly listed telecommunication provider<br>\nIndosat and PT Krakatau Engineering Corporation received<br>\nyesterday ISO certification for their services.<\/p>\n<p>Indosat, which is listed on Jakarta and New York stock<br>\nexchanges, received ISO 9002 certification from Geneva-based<br>\nSociete Generale de Surveillance for its international quality<br>\nservice in telecommunications.<\/p>\n<p>Indosat's president, Tjahjono Soerjodibroto, said obtaining<br>\nISO certification was an important objective in Indosat's goal to<br>\nwin international recognition.<\/p>\n<p>Indosat now intends to improve the quality of its marketing,<br>\ncustomer services and operations.<\/p>\n<p>\"We plan to improve the quality of our customer services by<br>\nincreasing the speed and clarity of our telecommunications<br>\noperation,\" Tjahjono said.<\/p>\n<p>Krakatau Engineering Corporation received  ISO 9001<br>\ncertification for its quality service on engineering,<br>\nprocurement, and construction management (EPC) from Britain's<br>\nLloyd Register Quality Assurance.<\/p>\n<p>Krakatau Engineering's president Djoko S. Widodo said<br>\nyesterday the certification was essential to enhance the<br>\ncompany's competitiveness in taking advantage of Indonesia's<br>\ngrowing construction sector.<\/p>\n<p>\"Many big manufacturing projects with large foreign investment<br>\nnow use foreign EPC services,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>In industrialized nations, the ISO 9000 certificate has become<br>\na requirement to prove a company's standard quality, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said about 70 percent of manufacturing projects in<br>\nIndonesia used foreign EPC companies.<\/p>\n<p>Krakatau Engineering, a subsidiary of PT Krakatau Steel,<br>\ncontrols between 10 and 15 percent of the domestic market of EPC,<br>\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>Djoko said the company's contract value was expected to<br>\nincrease to Rp 150 billion (US$62.39 million) from about Rp 80<br>\nbillion in 1996.<\/p>\n<p>\"The increase would be expected to come from the development<br>\nof new manufacturing plants, especially steel plants from<br>\nKrakatau Steel,\" Djoko said.<\/p>\n<p>Krakatau Engineering's operation has also expanded into other<br>\nsectors, including chemical, petrochemical, infrastructure, and<br>\nplant maintenance.
