ISO certification for two more firms<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Publicly listed telecommunication provider
\nIndosat and PT Krakatau Engineering Corporation received
\nyesterday ISO certification for their services.<\/p>\n
Indosat, which is listed on Jakarta and New York stock
\nexchanges, received ISO 9002 certification from Geneva-based
\nSociete Generale de Surveillance for its international quality
\nservice in telecommunications.<\/p>\n
Indosat's president, Tjahjono Soerjodibroto, said obtaining
\nISO certification was an important objective in Indosat's goal to
\nwin international recognition.<\/p>\n
Indosat now intends to improve the quality of its marketing,
\ncustomer services and operations.<\/p>\n
\"We plan to improve the quality of our customer services by
\nincreasing the speed and clarity of our telecommunications
\noperation,\" Tjahjono said.<\/p>\n
Krakatau Engineering Corporation received ISO 9001
\ncertification for its quality service on engineering,
\nprocurement, and construction management (EPC) from Britain's
\nLloyd Register Quality Assurance.<\/p>\n
Krakatau Engineering's president Djoko S. Widodo said
\nyesterday the certification was essential to enhance the
\ncompany's competitiveness in taking advantage of Indonesia's
\ngrowing construction sector.<\/p>\n
\"Many big manufacturing projects with large foreign investment
\nnow use foreign EPC services,\" he said.<\/p>\n
In industrialized nations, the ISO 9000 certificate has become
\na requirement to prove a company's standard quality, he said.<\/p>\n
He said about 70 percent of manufacturing projects in
\nIndonesia used foreign EPC companies.<\/p>\n
Krakatau Engineering, a subsidiary of PT Krakatau Steel,
\ncontrols between 10 and 15 percent of the domestic market of EPC,
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Djoko said the company's contract value was expected to
\nincrease to Rp 150 billion (US$62.39 million) from about Rp 80
\nbillion in 1996.<\/p>\n
\"The increase would be expected to come from the development
\nof new manufacturing plants, especially steel plants from
\nKrakatau Steel,\" Djoko said.<\/p>\n
Krakatau Engineering's operation has also expanded into other
\nsectors, including chemical, petrochemical, infrastructure, and
