ISO-9002 given to Inti's management<\/p>\n
BANDUNG, West Java (JP): PT Industri Telekomunikasi Indonesia
\n(Inti), the state-owned telecommunications equipment
\nmanufacturer, yesterday received an ISO-9002 certificate for its
\nmanagement.<\/p>\n
The ISO-9002 certificate was awarded by Christiaan W. Bekker,
\nthe project coordinating manager of PT Kema Registered Quality
\nIndonesia, which represents the Netherlands-based NV Kema
\nNetherlands standardization organization.<\/p>\n
Inti president Arsyad Ismael accepted the certificate on
\nbehalf of his company during a ceremony attended by Secretary-
\nGeneral of the Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications
\nJonathan L. Parapak and Deputy Chairman of the Agency for the
\nManagement of Strategic Industries (BPIS) Giri Suseno.<\/p>\n
The ISO-9002 was awarded to Inti for its digital telephone hub
\n(STDI) production lines. Next year, he said, the company plans to
\ngain an ISO-9001 certificate for its smaller \"Prima STDI-K\"
\nproduction lines.<\/p>\n
The Prima STDI-K, he said, is expected to become the company's
\nleading product in the future because, unlike the STDI which is
\nproduced under cooperation with Siemens of Germany, Prima STDI-K
\nis designed entirely by Inti, which is managed by BPIS.<\/p>\n
Being a local product, Prima STDI-K will have a competitive
\nprice but the same quality level as the STDI, Arsyad added.<\/p>\n
He said Inti is presently eying Vietnam, Cambodia and
\ncountries in the Middle East and Latin America, which have
\ngeographical structures like Indonesia, for export of its
\nproducts.<\/p>\n
\"These countries do not need large, centralized telephone
\nhubs. This is where our products can come in,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said that Inti plans to produce at least 100,000 Prima
\nSTDI-K units next year.<\/p>\n
Last year, Inti increased its telephone line production
\ncapacity by 400,000 units to 800,000 units per annum.<\/p>\n
Inti's revenues are expected to reach Rp 350 billion
\n(US$152.83 million) this year. Last year's revenues declined to
\nRp 287 billion from Rp 350 billion in 1993.<\/p>\n
Arsyad said last year's low revenues were caused by the
\ncompany's restructuring programs, as well as by various changes
\nin market behavior.<\/p>\n
He refused to disclose the company's target revenues for next
\nyear.<\/p>\n
\"PT Telkom (state-owned domestic telecommunications company),
\nwhich is our largest customer, has conducted joint ventures with
\nforeign and domestic private partners. There is always the
\npossibility that the foreign partners will only be willing to use
\nproducts from their own countries,\" Arsyad said.<\/p>\n
\"It is no longer the era of monopolization, but of
\ncompetition. I can't predict our revenues for next year. I can
\nonly tell you that up to now, only two orders have been submitted
