ISO-14000 launch planned<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The president of the Geneva-based International
\nOrganization for Standardization (ISO), Eberhard Mollmann, said
\nyesterday that the organization will introduce ISO-14000
\ncertificates of standardization next year.<\/p>\n
\"We are still preparing ISO-14000, which concerns
\nenvironmental management,\" Mollmann said after meeting with
\nexecutives of the Standardization Council of Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\"I think the environment is an important field in the world,
\nespecially now when people are more conscious and responsible
\ntowards environmental problems,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Executive secretary of the council, Herudi Kartowisastro, told
\nThe Jakarta Post that Indonesia, which has adopted ISO-9000, must
\nadopt the ISO-14000 standardization if it wants to win
\ncompetition on the world market.<\/p>\n
\"We have to adopt ISO-14000 to show other countries that
\nIndonesia complies with the certification, issued by an
\nindependent party, which can be accepted by all people,\" Herudi
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
P. Djoko Tjiptadi, a director of PT Sucofindo, a state-owned
\nsurveyor company, said recently that the number of ISO-9000
\ncertificate recipients is only about 70, far lower than the 400
\nin Malaysia and over 500 in Singapore.<\/p>\n
During his three-day Indonesian visit, which began yesterday,
\nMollmann is scheduled to attend a meeting of the Association of
\nSoutheast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Consultative Committee on
