JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) has addressed the buzz on social\nmedia regarding the price comparison between Pertalite and Pertamax\nfuels.<\/p>\n
The discussion stemmed from a social media post, including one on\nThreads, showing a fuel purchase receipt from a Pertamina petrol station\nthat detailed the actual price of Pertalite.<\/p>\n
The receipt indicated that buyers only need to pay Rp10,000 per litre\nfor Pertalite, whose actual price reaches around Rp16,000 per litre.\nThis means approximately Rp6,000 per litre is subsidised by the\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
The actual Pertalite price has sparked public questions because it\nappears higher than the current selling price of Pertamax, which is\naround Rp12,300 per litre, such as in the Jabodetabek area.<\/p>\n
However, Pertamax has an RON of 92, higher quality than Pertalite\nwith an RON of 90.<\/p>\n
Roberth explained that Pertamax is actually classified as a General\nFuel Type (JBU), whose price follows market fluctuations and receives no\nsubsidy. However, Pertamina has not adjusted Pertamax prices since 1\nApril 2026.<\/p>\n
Pertamina chose to hold Pertamax at Rp12,300 per litre amid rises in\nother non-subsidised fuels due to soaring global energy prices from the\nwar in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
According to Roberth, this was done to maintain a conducive and\nstable domestic situation. The decision was made after coordination\nbetween the government and Pertamina as a state-owned enterprise\n(BUMN).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government coordinated with Pertamina to avoid price adjustments\nfrom 1 April 2026. Why? Because Pertamax is also for middle-class people\nwho can afford it. Meanwhile, (Pertamax) Turbo and others are for middle\nto upper (wealthy) classes,\u201d he explained in a statement to the media on\nFriday (8\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
Roberth also provided an illustration through comparisons with other\nproducts. When non-subsidised fuels had not yet been adjusted, Pertamax\nat Rp12,300 per litre was only slightly different from Pertamax Turbo at\nRp13,100 per litre.<\/p>\n
However, with Pertamax Turbo now rising to Rp19,900 per litre, the\npublic can estimate the actual price of Pertamax if there were no\nintervention.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Pertamax followed the economic price it should have, its price\nwould clearly be more expensive than unsubsidised Pertalite. This is\noften missed or forgotten: the current Pertamax price involves the\ngovernment\u2019s role and Pertamina\u2019s,\u201d Roberth clarified.<\/p>\n
The main goal of subsidising Pertalite is to maintain national\nstability, particularly in preserving people\u2019s purchasing power and\nensuring the wheels of the economy keep turning, especially amid global\nenergy price pressures.<\/p>\n
