In the past few months there have been an increasing number of
\nhold-ups of people who have just collected money from banks. The
\nrobbers usually ride RX-King motorcycles and are armed with
\nknives and pistols. One of the victims has died.<\/p>\n
The latest case reported was the extremely daring exploits at
\nthe information ministry on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat. Two
\nemployees had just collected Rp 34.4 million to pay employee
\nsalaries. The motorcyclists were unhurried when robbing the
\nemployees, even though they were not far from a great number of
\nother employees. One of the robbers even fired a bullet into the
\nair to facilitate the takeover. They quietly took off with their
\nloot, jumped the traffic lights at the first intersection and
\ndisappeared into the traffic.<\/p>\n
It is a big challenge for law enforcers, especially in the
\ncircumstances of the above hold-up which took place on the
\npremises of the information ministry, only a short distance from
\nthe presidential palace. It was particularly worrying because
\nfirearms were used. If steps are not taken immediately, Jakarta
\nwill become increasingly crime infested.<\/p>\n
