        "content": "<p>Irian glaciers cleaned up<\/p>\n<p>JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: A 20 member clean-up team of PT Freeport<br>\nIndonesia has removed some 800 kilograms of refuse from the<br>\nCarstenz and Meren glaciers at the top of the Jayawijaya<br>\nmountains.<\/p>\n<p>PT Freeport, which operates a giant mining company near one of<br>\nthe world's last remaining equatorial glaciers, said yesterday<br>\nthe team found everything from home-made crampons, gloves and<br>\nplastic bags to poles.<\/p>\n<p>The materials had accumulated over the years, discarded by<br>\nclimbers and natives who use trails to travel between villages on<br>\nopposite sides of the mountains.<\/p>\n<p>The Carstenz and Meren glaciers have long been great<br>\nattractions to mountaineers from both Indonesia and abroad.
