The United Nations (ANTARA) \u2014 More than 1,300 civilians have been\nkilled and 9,669 civilian facilities destroyed in Iran as a result of\nmilitary strikes launched by the United States and Israel since 28\nFebruary, according to Iran\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United\nNations, Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani, speaking on Tuesday (10\nMarch).<\/p>\n
The civilian locations affected include 7,943 residential homes,\n1,617 commercial and service centres, 32 medical and pharmaceutical\nfacilities, 65 schools and educational institutions, 13 Red Crescent\nbuildings, as well as several energy supply facilities, Iravani told the\npress in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey deliberately and indiscriminately target civilians and civilian\ninfrastructure throughout my country. They disregard international law\nand show no restraint in committing these crimes,\u201d Iravani stated.<\/p>\n
He also asserted that densely populated residential areas and\ncritical civilian infrastructure have been deliberately targeted. The\nnumber of casualties and damage continues to increase as the US-Israeli\nmilitary strikes persist.<\/p>\n
Iravani cited several examples of attacks on civilian targets,\nincluding a massive strike on fuel storage facilities in Tehran and\nother cities on Saturday (7 March) evening, which released large\nquantities of hazardous and toxic pollutants into the atmosphere.<\/p>\n
The explosions caused severe air pollution and serious health risks\nfor civilians, particularly children, women, the elderly, and those with\nserious health conditions, Iravani stated, citing Iran\u2019s Red Crescent\nSociety.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese vicious attacks also violate international environmental\nobligations, including those contained in the UN Framework Convention on\nClimate Change and the Convention on Biological Diversity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Iravani cited additional examples including attacks on Mehrabad\nAirport in Tehran on Saturday morning, which destroyed or severely\ndamaged several civilian aircraft and airport facilities, and strikes on\na desalination facility on Qeshm Island in Hormozgan Province, which\ndisrupted water supply to 30 villages.<\/p>\n
In the early hours of Sunday (8 March), Israeli forces launched a\n\u201cdeliberate terrorist attack\u201d on the Ramada Hotel in Beirut, Lebanon,\nkilling four Iranian diplomats.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe targeted killing of diplomats in the territory of another\nsovereign nation constitutes serious terrorism, a war crime, and a\nblatant violation of international law,\u201d Iravani said.<\/p>\n
He urged the international community to act immediately to stop the\nconflict.<\/p>\n
