Iranian President Masoud Pehenskian has stated that Tehran is ready\nto respond if the United States fails to fulfil its commitments within\nthe interim agreement reached between the two nations last June.<\/p>\n
Pezeshkian made the statement during the Shanghai Cooperation\nOrganisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek on Tuesday, following a period\nwhere Iran and the US have once again engaged in direct exchanges of\nattacks. The summit was attended by several world leaders, including\nChinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n
\u201cI state clearly that if the United States returns to its commitments\nbased on the Memorandum of Understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran\nwill respond immediately,\u201d said Pezeshkian, as quoted by Iranian state\nmedia on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Pezeshkian was referring to the interim agreement signed by Tehran\nand Washington in June, which was an effort to halt the conflict that\nerupted following US and Israeli attacks on Iran on 28 February.<\/p>\n
On several occasions, Iran has emphasised that such an agreement is\none of the conditions for Tehran to guarantee free navigation through\nthe Strait of Hormuz. This strategic waterway is a vital route for\nglobal oil distribution.<\/p>\n
Pezeshkian\u2019s statement comes after the latest exchange of attacks\nbetween the two parties. The US reportedly attacked Larak Island, while\nIran subsequently launched attacks against two US airbases in\nJordan.<\/p>\n
Despite the resurgence of tensions, Pezeshkian previously stated that\nwar provides no advantage to any party. He also reaffirmed that Tehran\nremains open to a negotiated solution to resolve the conflict with\nWashington.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, US President Donald Trump told Fox News that\n\u201cthere will be a response\u201d to the Iranian attacks.
