Ankara (ANTARA) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on\nFriday that he does not support the continuation of war with the United\nStates (US), while calling for the strengthening of Iran\u2019s resilience to\nface the next phase.<\/p>\n
These remarks were made during a meeting with university leaders in\nIran, according to the local news agency Mehr News Agency.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do not support the continuation of war, but we must strengthen the\nnation\u2019s resilience in facing future developments,\u201d said Pezeshkian when\nasked regarding the conflict with Washington.<\/p>\n
According to him, strengthening national resilience must be achieved\nthrough measures that do not force Iran to negotiate with the \u201cenemy\u201d\nfrom a position of weakness. He also requested that universities support\nthe government in this endeavour.<\/p>\n
The Iranian President stated that economic policies must take\nexisting social conditions into account. He warned that ill-considered\nmeasures could lead to losses rather than providing solutions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must utilise the contributions of Generation Z students to\nresolve societal issues, as well as ensure they participate in providing\nsolutions, rather than being involved in protests,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Pezeshkian emphasised that, as president, he holds no political\naffiliations with specific groups. He stated that he is open to\ncooperating with all political groups and anyone who contributes to\novercoming the crises facing Iran.<\/p>\n
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on 28 February,\nprompting Tehran to launch missiles at Israel and attack US targets and\nbases in several countries across the region.<\/p>\n
Iran also announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping,\nwhich caused widespread disruption to global energy and trade flows.<\/p>\n
On 18 June, Washington and Tehran reached a memorandum of\nunderstanding to end military operations, including guarantees for\ncommercial vessels to transit the Strait of Hormuz and the commencement\nof negotiations to reach a final agreement within 60 days.<\/p>\n
However, the understanding subsequently failed to materialise, and\nclashes resumed in July.
