Jakarta \u2014 The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has strongly\ncondemned the attack by the United States and Israel that killed 175\nfemale students at Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School for Girls in\nMinab city, Hormozgan Province, Iran, on 28 February 2026,\ncharacterising it as a war crime.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese defenceless children, who were only present in the classroom\nto study and build a bright future, became victims of violence due to a\nmissile strike,\u201d said Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad\nBoroujerdi during a condolence event at his residence in Jakarta on\nSaturday (14 March).<\/p>\n
The attack on an elementary school and the killing of 175 female\nstudents constitutes a violation of the principle of distinction between\nmilitary and civilian targets and represents a clear example of a war\ncrime.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat further clarifies this bitter reality is that American\nofficials themselves have also acknowledged that the attack was carried\nout by them,\u201d the Ambassador said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis acknowledgement demonstrates the direct responsibility of the\nperpetrators and further emphasises the importance of accountability and\nlegal action against this crime within the framework of international\nmechanisms,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The targeting of a school and the killing of defenceless children\nalso constitutes a clear violation of the fundamental principles of\ninternational humanitarian law and obligations under various legitimate\ninternational instruments, including the Geneva Conventions and rules\nfor the protection of civilians during armed conflict.<\/p>\n
Based on these principles, civilians, especially children and\neducational institutions, must be fully protected from military attacks,\nAmbassador Boroujerdi stated.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the attack occurred whilst Iran was pursuing diplomatic\nchannels, dialogue and negotiations to achieve a peaceful solution and\nstrengthen regional peace and stability.<\/p>\n
Amid the continuing US and Israeli attacks against civilians,\nincluding children, the Iranian Embassy called upon the international\ncommunity, including Indonesia, active Islamic organisations,\ninternational human rights bodies and organisations defending children\u2019s\nrights to not remain silent against such crimes.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy firmly condemning such action, it is hoped that they will take\nsteps to uncover the truth, demand accountability from the perpetrators\nand prevent the recurrence of similar tragedies,\u201d the Ambassador\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He stressed that the protection of children\u2019s lives and civilians is\na shared responsibility of all nations and peoples worldwide.<\/p>\n
On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched a series of\nattacks against various targets in Iran, including Tehran.<\/p>\n
